Greenpoint Food Market February: A Food Affair
Saturday, 12-5 p.m., Greenpoint Church of the Messiah

Says organizer Joann Kim, “Expect enough hearts to nauseate your love radar, wear your brightest lipstick and bring along someone to kiss in front of our photo booth.” Vendors/foods will include iheartkeenwah quinoa mix, Sandwich Friend sandwiches, Sourpuss Pickles pickles, Morta di Fame Sicilian street food, Kombucha Brooklyn kombucha, Arirang Kimchi kimchi, Hale Seitan seitan and pate and Bean & Apple sweet sauces and baked goods (lots of newcomers, it seems!). And, of course, Cobra Pate, raw vegan nut-pates, in 3 new, Valentine’s-Day-friendly flavors:

  • Hearts Afire (Macadamia nut, red pepper, red chiles, Hawaiian sea salt)
  • Let Love Grow (cashews, nutmeg, fennel and mustard seed)
  • Spread It On Your Spouse (actual name pending; almonds, basil, star anise & honey)

Warning: pates may be prone to cause that lovin’ feeling – almonds, basil, fennel, honey, mustard and nutmeg are thought to be aprodisiacs stimulating female passion, fertility, desire, male arousal and the sexual glands. Ahem.

Where the overripe cooking show is plucked from its predictable ends and thrown into a mystery…

We Cobras are currently in development for a new web series.

When winter came this year, the Jackal missed Mama Jackal’s home cooking. Megar revisited an unhealthy fascination for Twin Peaks and Chef Jables tried to lift spirits by feeding everyone’s beards and growing happy bellies.

Despite the comforts of the den, the Cobras were eager to meet some new friends who shared their interests in locally grown foods. They met beekeepers, bootleg lobster rolls, rooftop farmers, and chickens, oh my!

The Cobras found one special friend in particular that is a driving force and staunch supporter of the local food movement in Greenpoint, Brooklyn: Joann Kim. Together, they resolved to highlight the efforts and homemade feasts of their neighbors in a very unusual way.

A mystery show was born.  Updates to come!

This was our first experiment with a Canon 7D shot with a 50mm 1.4. Footage shot and edited by The Jackal. Video features the lovely Liz Brown & stunning Katie Henner, who helped sell the pâté at the Greenpoint Food Market.

Thanks for the song, Devendra Banhart! You get infinite amounts of Cobra Pâté. All you have to do is ask chefjables@goddamncobras.com.

Nut Pâtés made by hand in Brooklyn.  Rotating, seasonal flavors that are delicious as a dip, spread, filling, or by the spoonful. Jables learned the art of pâté making from a noble pâté rajguru, who taught him to source local ingredients from small farms and his own garden. After traveling around the world and living on a cashew ashram, Jables ended up back in New York at an opportune time, when there is a revived demand for fresh, local, creative food. With help from his team of tasters, fellow food makers, and pâté fans, he stirs his eclectic experience into the elixirs of the jar.
